World Chamberlain Genealogical Society

The World Chamberlain Genealogical Society was formed in January 1996 to foster genealogical research on the Chamberlain surname, in all its variant spellings, Chamberlin, Chamberlayne, Chamberline, Chamberlaine, etc. The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Chamberlain Key, featuring family records, queries and tips for discovering more information on Chamberlain ancestors. Members are encouraged to submit articles for inclusion in the newsletter and offer comments on organization activities. We hope the newsletter will become a means for developing cohesion and fellowship among members, as well as an instrument of disseminating information.

ALL MEMBERS are urged to send in their lineages to help build a comprehensive data base that can be used to explore the origins and extent of relationships among the various lines. All information received will be filed and made available to all researchers of the surname. It is hoped that this can become a major archive to benefit all present and future members.

DNA RESEARCH is an essential component in the research of Chamberlain pedigrees. The WCGS maintains a data base of greater than 100 Y chromosome DNA profiles. This information is in the form of 25 marker profiles of allele values, a number that has been found to be necessary to make accurate comparisons among haplotypes.

Most of the early Chamberlain immigrants are represented in our database, making it possible for persons who are uncertain of their ancestry to confirm, or rule out, a descent from one of the known immigrants. WCGS urges all researchers of the surname to obtain a Y chromosome DNA profile in order to facilitate identification of ancestral lines and provide a check on the validity of documented lineages.

To learn more about our current research, read our newsletter of Chamberlain DNA Studies. For additional information or for instructions on how to obtain a DNA profile, interested persons should contact the WCGS Group Administrator of DNA research at DNA@chamberlain-society.org.
